Mayor Helena Moreno’s administration on Wednesday announced a carrot-and-stick effort to recover outstanding sales taxes, as officials try to improve the city’s financial standing and consider steep cuts to the 2027 operating budget.
Delinquent businesses can have penalties forgiven, as well as a 50% interest reduction, if they pay outstanding sales tax obligations by Dec. 31. The amnesty program begins on Oct. 1.
