WNC forged deed scheme ends with 3 convictions, land returned

BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) — A real estate fraud scheme involving seven property parcels in Western North Carolina has concluded with criminal convictions and the full restoration of the land to its rightful owner.

The fraudulent transfers deprived the victim of property with an estimated total value of $529,500.

Buncombe County officials said the victim’s adoptive nephew, Kevin West, executed the scheme by forging signatures on quitclaim deeds, while his father, Dana West and notary public Whittni Griffin facilitated the unauthorized transfers…
