CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources’ Region 4 Law Enforcement Division has been awarded the Golden Trashcan Award for the second consecutive year, recognizing the region’s efforts in litter enforcement and environmental stewardship.
The annual award, presented through the UP2U program, recognizes excellence in litter prevention, enforcement and community outreach among the agency’s four law enforcement regions. Region 4 includes Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Georgetown, Hampton, Horry and Jasper counties.
According to SCDNR, Region 4 officers issued 137 littering citations and warnings over the past year, logged 2,571 patrol hours, participated in 16 community outreach events and prosecuted 15 major litter cases. Officers also validated community service hours tied to litter enforcement efforts…
