ROCKFORD, Mich. (WOOD) — A couple’s lawsuit against Rockford Public School District has been dismissed, according to an announcement from Rockford Public Schools.
In 2023, Dan and Jennifer Mead sued Rockford Public Schools for using male pronouns for their child that was biologically born female without their knowledge. After three years of the ongoing lawsuit, a Thursday announcement from Rockford Public Schools said that the case had been dismissed voluntarily by the Meads.

Rockford Public Schools said that the dismissal was not a settlement and that the district never paid the Meads any money or agreed to any terms that would get them to withdraw their claims.
The lawsuit filed in 2023 said that the school violated the Meads’ First and Fourteenth Amendment rights by referring to their child with masculine pronouns without their knowledge. The Meads withdrew their student, 13 at the time, from the school as a result and switched them to homeschooling, saying that “socially transitioning” their child from their biological sex is against their religious beliefs.
