After more than 50 years, the pig is closing in Myrtle Beach.
Since Lester Cannon opened Piggly Wiggly at 1700 N. Kings Highway with his brother Clarence in 1972, the store has fed generations of locals and visitors alike downtown. But amid economic downturn and the rise of other grocery chains in the area, the store will close its doors for the last time on Oct. 11.
“It’s been the greatest period, until the last couple years with the economy,” said owner Jay Martin.
