More than 200 groups back Newark convention seeking to unite activists around a ‘people’s agenda’

More than 200 organizations, including grassroots, civic, community, labor, student, religious and social justice groups, have endorsed a daylong social justice convention scheduled for Saturday in Newark, according to organizers.

Sponsored by the People’s Organization for Progress (POP) and co-sponsored by the Martin Luther King People’s Convention for Justice and Resistance Planning Committee, the event will mark the second annual gathering of a broad coalition of New Jersey social justice, faith-based and community organizations.
