Plaintiff attorneys gave their closing statements in the trial of retired Union City Police Officer Juan Estrella’s discrimination trial yesterday before the jury started deliberating today.
Court began Wednesday morning with plaintiff attorneys Ernest Ianetti and Yasmin Estrella both giving the closing statement to the jury after defense gave their summations the day prior, as HCV first reported.
While there were talks of a settlement, nothing came of that as Ianetti addressed the jury to lay out their case that Juan was discriminated against in the bypass of his promotion to sergeant because he was Dominican.
Defense attorney Phillip Morrow objected to Ianetti and Yasmin Estrella splitting the testimony, but Hudson County Superior Court Judge Kalimah Ahmad allowed it, stating that it would not prejudice the defense…
