BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Professional barrel racers Pfeiffer Taylor and Stella Lawhorn are two Bakersfield locals you can catch this weekend at the Kern County fair. These ladies have been rodeo friends for years, but just recently the racers and their horses have become inseparable.
Barrel racing is a speed event involving three barrels. Pfeiffer explained that barrel racers have the choice to direct their horse right of left, as long as they create a clover leaf pattern. Whomever finishes first, wins.

“Going slow is definitely not a great thing. But the worst thing and the biggest penalty is hitting a barrel,” said Taylor.
