WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Wave Transit bus drivers are speaking out over what they call unsustainable pay and benefits, telling Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority board members they can no longer afford to make ends meet.
Drivers and members of Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1328 addressed the board Thursday, saying low wages, high health insurance premiums and unsafe working conditions have pushed many of them to take on two and three jobs just to get by.
