Cold front threatens week of storms across Texas as temps plummet

This isn’t the first time forecasters have sounded the alarm about a cold front sweeping into Texas, strong enough to reach more central cities like San Antonio or Austin. But as the week comes to a close, multiple forecasters agree – this might be the best odds of a strong cold front since the start of meteorological fall on September 1.

For the first time since the dog days of summer, Texas may finally be staring down the barrel of a real cold front. While the Texas Panhandle has been blessed with 70-degree days thanks to cold air stalling after meeting a high-pressure heat dome hovering over the rest of the state, that dome may finally be retreating east. And that could allow some actual reprieve for sweaty Central and South Texas residents.

“A storm and associated cold front is slated to move across the western U.S. late this weekend before tracking across the Rockies early in the week and moving into the Plains by the middle of the next. This front will bring the first notable chance of widespread rainfall across Texas this fall,” AccuWeather meteorologist Elizabeth Danco tells MySA…
