New Orleans’ public housing authority failed last year to fix electrical hazards, inoperable windows, and other life-threatening problems in its subsidized apartments, federal regulators said in a recent report.
All but one of 75 units in the Housing Authority of New Orleans’ Section 8 program failed to meet federal safety standards, according to last week’s report from the Office of Inspector General of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. That’s despite reports from a HANO-commissioned inspector that the units were safe.
