Ed Sheeran’s cousin, Jethro Sheeran, has publicly called the singer a “snake” during a candid interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored, set to air soon. The 44-year-old did not hold back in his criticism of Ed, 35, especially regarding the controversy surrounding Macklemore’s removal from Ed’s Loop Tour.
The dispute began after Macklemore made pro-Palestinian remarks, leading to his exit from the remaining U.S. dates of the tour. Ed’s team said the decision was made by the promoter following pressure from billionaire Robert Kraft and other stadium owners, while Ed insisted it wasn’t his call. This explanation sparked backlash, including from Jethro, who initially voiced his disapproval on social media.
During the interview, Jethro doubled down on his harsh assessment, revealing he hasn’t spoken to Ed in six or seven years. He accused Ed of being deceitful, describing him as a “snake.”
Jethro stressed that his criticism isn’t rooted in jealousy. “He’s very talented, and people think I’m jealous.
But jealous of what? His looks?
His guitar? His singing?”
he questioned.
Jethro also reflected on their estrangement, recalling how he introduced Ed to the stage and studio early on, but after Ed’s rise to fame, he felt abandoned. “He blew up and completely left everything that we built behind,” Jethro said. Known in the music world as Alonestar, Jethro expressed his belief that Ed and his team were responsible for kicking Macklemore off the tour and then shifted blame onto the promoter.
“I’ve witnessed him being a coward for almost ten years and lying. That’s just my own truth.
I think it was a cowardly move to do it and blame the promoters,” Jethro stated. He added that despite Macklemore’s claim that Ed removed him from the tour, Ed later said he begged Macklemore to stay.
Jethro, who emphasized their familial bond as “first blood cousins,” accused Ed of many wrongdoings.
He further criticized Ed for “ditching” Macklemore, saying, “I wouldn’t have. Thirteen years of friendship is more important than a phone call from the person who owns the stadium.” When Piers Morgan suggested Jethro seemed to harbor hatred toward Ed and mentioned accusations of jealousy, Jethro responded firmly.
“I’m happy for his success. I don’t hate him.
I just think he’s a coward because of what he’s done. And I swear to God and on my daughter’s life, I am not jealous of Ed Sheeran,” Jethro insisted.
He expressed disappointment rather than envy, stating, “I think he’s turning his back on a lot of people, and he deserves everything he’s getting right now. Everyone is seeing through him.”
This isn’t the first time Jethro has clashed with Ed’s camp. Earlier in 2024, he claimed that Ed’s label, Warner Music, demanded he remove Ed’s image and name from the artwork of a remix of their 2010 collaboration “Raise Em Up.” The family feud appears far from over as tensions continue to play out publicly.
