GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Scammers are pretending to be sheriff’s deputies and demanding payment on the phone, saying it’s the only way you’ll stay out of jail.
What seemed to be an important phone call from the Kent County Sheriff’s Office had Melissa Janes concerned.
“It was actually a voicemail,” Janes said. “Lt. Timothy Parker from the Kent County Sheriff’s Department and saying that I had failed to appear for federal jury duty and so they were following up.”
