MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 65-year-old man is charged with leading state troopers on a wild high-speed chase that ended when his Mercedes SUV overheated and caught fire near the airport.
Tony Burnet is charged with speeding, evading arrest, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, and driving without a license, registration or insurance.

It all began on Shelby Drive in the Hickory Hill area around 11 a.m. Thursday, when a trooper says he caught Burnet doing 70 mph in a 45 mph zone.
The trooper turned around and turned his lights and siren on, but says the driver accelerated and turned into a residential area on Sandy Park Drive to get away.
Burnet allegedly drove through yards to get back to Shelby Drive, then drove through a gate into a business at Shelby Drive and Crump. The gate operator opened the gate for Burnet, but delayed opening it for law enforcement…
