By next week, Henrico’s Department of Utilities will submit 50% of the design plans for a new water transmission main connecting water plants in Western Henrico to homes and businesses in Eastern Henrico.
Once complete, the 13-mile, 42-inch and 48-inch pipeline segments would allow the far eastern parts of Henrico – which currently rely on water from the City of Richmond – to receive water from Western Henrico, uniting the county under one water system. Henrico currently purchases about 12 million gallons of water from Richmond each day and is contractually obligated to continue doing so through July 1, 2040.
Henrico DPU, which has hired engineering firm Whitman Requardt & Associates for design services, plans to submit 90% of design plans in May of 2027 and 100% in December of 2027. By May of 2028, construction on the transmission main is set to begin, with an expected completion in April 2031…
