LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A recent study found Arkansas to be the state with residents most at risk of developing lung disease.
The study by the Mesothelioma Center at Asbestos.com scored every state on adult smoking, the share of children living in a household where someone smokes, the share of residents covered by comprehensive smoke-free laws, and average fine particle air pollution. The study’s authors said they used 6,394 data points from federal surveys, government air monitors, and smoke-free law records to develop the data.

Arkansas wound up with a final lung risk score of 83.5, the highest in the nation. It was followed by Tennessee at 77.6, West Virginia third at 76.4, Oklahoma fourth at 74.1 and Kentucky fifth at 73.7.
