RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – The Historic Reno Preservation Society (HRPS) is hosting its annual Harvest of Homes, giving visitors a chance to tour some of the best preserved and restored houses from Reno’s past.
Kathleen Elcano is one of the homeowners opening her doors for the tour. Stepping into her home, visitors are transported back to a time of elegant and gracious living. Every piece of furniture and decor was intentionally chosen and placed, each with its own meaning.
“I love history. I love objects that have been touched by someone else, loved by someone else, and I like to make them my own. I love their stories,” Elcano said.
Salvaged pieces tell a story
Elcano is a self-proclaimed lover of old things. Very few items in her home are new. And each piece has a story. For example, her kitchen table was purchased by her husband as a gift following a family health scare. Green marble in her master bathroom was salvaged from the former Dandini home…
