CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — The Charleston Water System is currently conducting a lead service line replacement project throughout service areas in North Charleston and the Charleston Peninsula, and it is seeking public input for the next phase.
The water system has been conducting this work for about a month now, focusing on 1,100 service lines, but is now proposing a second project to be considered through the South Carolina Drinking Water State Revolving Fund program.
With a price tag of about $36 million, the goal is to permanently remove and replace approximately 941 known lead pipes with more modern copper pipes. It is currently in the early stages of planning and design and will host a public meeting to solicit community feedback…
