YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – With corn mazes, apple ciders and pumpkins filling our farms, yards and homes over the past couple weeks, Fall is in full swing across the Valley. What do weather trends look like as we prepare to switch the calendars from September to October?
October temperatures
Average high temperatures in October cool quite a bit. The normal high on October 1 is 68°F, and by Halloween the normal high temperature drops to 56°F. At the same time, normal lows fall from 47°F to 38°F, respectively.
This year, October will begin on a warmer-than-normal note, but that looks to drop off quickly as we move into the first full week of the month.
In the extended temperature outlook, the week of Oct. 5 has a greater chance of seeing below-normal temperatures in our part of Ohio and Pennsylvania. Normal highs that week would typically be in the middle 60s.
As we transition into the middle and latter parts of the month, the cooler pattern tries to settle up a bit, but there are stronger signals for areas of bigger warmth to be off to our west.
That is why in the 3-4 week temperature outlook below you can see that our area is highlighted in “equal chances” for neither above nor below normal temperatures locally.
