Jacksonville first responders rescue a driver in an SUV from the river after an incident in Mayport

Jacksonville police said officers responded to a crash Saturday that left the driver of an SUV injured and in the waters of the St. Johns River in Mayport Village.

Police were not able to confirm a post on that appeared on Facebook, showing the SUV in the water up to its windows and citing information about a crash involving the same vehicle in nearby Atlantic Beach.

“While we were in Mayport Village doing our monthly roadside trash cleanup, we saw six police vehicles running code and heading toward the Michael B. Scanlan Mayport Boat Ramp,” said the post on the Mayport Waterfront Partnership page…
