There are times I get very excited about a house. When it’s in a great neighborhood, has unexpected features, and is at a terrific price point, I’m sold. This Kessler Square Tudor hits that trifecta of desirable elements for me, and I think you will agree.
The Kessler Square neighborhood is only 10 blocks, and it’s part of the greater Kessler Park Conservation District, meaning no big white Lego box will pop up next to you. It was also given the honor of placement on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. What you will find here is one of the best collections of historic storybook revival homes in Dallas. The hilly, lush neighborhood simply oozes charm.
The location can’t be beat because the neighborhood is also home to Stevens Park Golf Course, Twelve Hills Nature Center, and Kidd Springs Park. All are a mere five-minute drive away. Methodist Hospital is five minutes to the East. If you are looking for nightlife, The Bishop Arts District is also a five-minute drive away. As for unexpected features, most of the homes built here in the 1920s were pretty modest. Someone came along and added a second floor years ago, which was a brilliant idea. The house is now a true four-bedroom with three bathrooms and 2,489 square feet. It has a study off of one of the principal bedrooms that is absolutely gorgeous. There’s enough space for a growing young family, which is always an unexpected find in a historic Tudor.
It also has a back house with power. Now, just imagine what you can do with that. You could use it as a kids’ play area (all the toys in one place is sheer heaven), a home office, an art studio, a workshop, a gym, or fully plumb it and rent it out! There is nothing I love more than a back house. My own back house was an interior design studio when I purchased my home. It has morphed from an office to a teen hangout to a guest cottage and now a short-term rental in the 36 years I’ve lived there. So you see what I mean, the possibilities are endless.
The backyard is extremely large with a nice big deck, and there’s a gated parking area with secure off-street parking and a separate two-car garage.
