COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — City leaders and community members alike gathered at the Columbus Trade Center Saturday morning to celebrate a Columbus icon: First Lady Karon Henderson.
As Mayor Skip Henderson’s 30-year career soon comes to a close at the end of the year, the city of Columbus joined under one accord to honor the impact that not only Henderson left, but the first lady.
The 7th annual First Lady Charity Luncheon highlighted First Lady Henderson’s accolades, achievements and the legacy she left throughout the community. Henderson was also showered with gifts as a token of the community’s appreciation.
Henderson expressed how she’s feeling as her time serving as first lady of Columbus is steadily coming to an end.
“It’s bittersweet, mostly sweet. It’s just been wonderful. We’re wrapping up eight years as mayor. We’ve made so many friends in the city and it’s just our home and we want to continue to give back, so we’ll be around. We’re in good hands with Mayor Hugley coming in and First Lady Carolyn, and I’m excited to see what the city has in store,” Henderson said…
