Newsmax host Greg Kelly has publicly criticized former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt for sharing details about a private lunch meeting between President Donald Trump and former British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Kelly accused Leavitt of betraying Trump’s trust by revealing what was discussed during the visit.
Leavitt appeared on Sean Hannity’s podcast where she described the lunch, recounting how Trump sharply criticized Starmer’s immigration policies while the American delegation was in the UK. “We’re sitting around the table, enjoying lunch in a beautiful setting, and the president just starts ripping into him for his policies,” Leavitt said.
She quoted Trump telling Starmer, “Your policies here are so stupid, you need to close your borders. You need to deport these people you have in your country.
I know your country and I know your people, they hate what you’re doing.”
Leavitt noted the unusual nature of the confrontation, given that it took place on Starmer’s home turf. “Starmer’s just sitting there… this is in his house, in his country.
We’re not even at the White House, not even on our own territory,” she explained. She recalled sharing a look with Stephen Miller, signaling the awkwardness of the moment.
In response, Kelly took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his disapproval. He questioned why a former press secretary would divulge private discussions with foreign leaders, especially during the heated midterm election period.
“Unbelievable. So now that she’s an ex-press secretary, Karoline (with a K) Leavitt GOSSIPS about PRIVATE meetings the President had with world leaders?”
he wrote. He called her actions “a breach of trust” and “immature,” emphasizing the importance of confidentiality.
Kelly’s objections focused on Leavitt’s decision to share the account publicly rather than disputing the substance of the conversation. Leavitt framed the incident as an example of Trump’s direct style when engaging with other world leaders, even in private settings.
The episode also echoed Trump’s own public criticisms of Starmer. In a Truth Social post, Trump predicted Starmer would resign as prime minister and accused him of failing on immigration and energy issues.
Karoline Leavitt stepped down as White House press secretary at the end of August. Her recent podcast appearance provided insights into her experience working closely with the former president.
