VALATIE, N.Y. (WTEN) — It was showtime for a documentary seven years in the making at the Valatie Community Theatre, and for one journalist, a culmination of research, interviewing and reporting.

Barbara Reina is a Nassau resident and journalist who saw a need for investigation of the Dewey Loeffel Landfill in Rensselaer County, and how it’s contaminated people through local drinking water.
“My goal is for them to be informed, to know what’s there,” she said.

The documentary is called Love Canal x 2 because of the landfill having twice the amount of toxic contamination as the Love Canal waste site in Buffalo, according to Reina. Lots of that contamination is from Polychlorinated Biphenyls, or PCB chemicals.
Reina said she was drawn to the story from how people were affected by the contamination…
