GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Greenville County deputies have issued 522 speeding citations in school zones during the first 19 days of the school year — nearly triple the 183 tickets written during the same stretch last year.
Deputies say drivers regularly travel well over posted limits, leaving law enforcement racing against the clock to pull over as many violators as possible during morning and afternoon drop-offs.
“Typically in a school zone we’ll stop four, six, maybe even eight depending on what we get,” Greenville County Deputy Andrew Allen said. “We only make one traffic stop every average eight to 10 minutes, so that’s a limiting factor on how many cars you can actually pull over in a school zone.”…
