When Mayor-elect Isaiah Hugley is officially sworn in this coming January he will be met with a number of issues and decisions to make on day one not the least of which will be the process of selecting the city’s next police chief. Hugley declined to be interviewed about specifics of how his administration plans to proceed after taking office.
Legendary legislator Calvin Smyre is leading Hugley’s transition team and told NowGeorgia.com that it would be “premature” to roll out any future plans publicly and that “out of respect” for those currently serving the city Hugley will reserve comment for now. Smyre noted that Stoney Mathis still has three months left on the clock as the Columbus Police Department’s current chief.
