The ANNA Shelter team responded to the scene of animal cruelty, which founder Ruth Thompson said is all too common.
Thompson said Pennsylvania State Police asked for their help after someone was reported for having several pets kept in horrid conditions, including 14 cats, two dogs and a bird.

The animals were confined to cages and are now suffering from infections, flea and tick infestations and malnourishment.
One of the animals who was critically ill was transferred to the ANNA Wellness Center for emergency vet care; the rest are at the triage facility as they continue their road to recovery.

“It’s more an issue of mental health, you know, just a situation where the animals weren’t being taken care of, needed to be removed from this situation. I don’t know necessarily that the person was purposely trying to do something like this,” Thompson said. “We all rely on our pets for the emotional support, but at the end of the day you got to take care of them as well.”…
