DOJ: Greenville man sentenced to prison after stealing $1.6M for failed SC restaurant

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – A Greenville man was sentenced to federal prison for embezzling roughly $1.6 million from his employer to fund lavish personal expenses and a failed restaurant venture, federal prosecutors announced.

Officials said Tony Ream, also known as “Tony Ream-Hendley” and “Tony Moul Ream,” received a 30-month prison sentence on Sept. 24 after previously pleading guilty to wire fraud. He was also ordered to pay $1.6 million in restitution and a $1,000 fine.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Ream worked as a credit supervisor for a Melville, New York-based health care products distributor. Between October 2020 and November 2024, prosecutors said Ream drained corporate funds from customer refund accounts into his personal accounts, masking the transactions as legitimate customer refunds…
