Police: More kids found with guns in Battle Creek

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — Multiple kids were found with guns in Battle Creek over the last few days, police say, prompting at least one safe storage violation charge.

The first arrest happened Friday, when police said a school resource officer was informed of a potential shooting at a “homecoming related gathering.” The Battle Creek Police Department’s Gang Suppression Unit worked out where it was and found a 16-year-old with a handgun that had been reported stolen. They were taken to the juvenile home on multiple charges, including possession of a stolen firearm.

Advocates push schools on gun safety notices

On Saturday, officials responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of Wagner Drive and Emmett Street. A caller reported to police that two juveniles were shooting a handgun in the woods near Linear Trail. Two minors, a 15-year-old and 12-year-old, were found by officers.

Police say the handgun was recovered from the 15-year-old, who was taken to the juvenile home on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and reckless discharge of a firearm, officers said. An adult was also charged for unsafe firearm storage, police say…
