FLORIDA – Flooded streets and unusually high water levels affected parts of South Florida as another period of king tides began across the region.
Water covered roadways and other low-lying locations over the weekend, creating hazardous conditions for motorists near the coast. The flooding followed several days of heavy rainfall that saturated areas of Miami-Dade and Broward counties before the latest high-tide cycle.
King tides are the highest predicted tides of the year and occur in South Florida during the fall. The events are caused by the gravitational alignment of the Earth, moon and sun. Flooding can worsen when elevated tides coincide with heavy rain, strong onshore winds, rough seas or high groundwater levels…
