A Robertson County student who cultivated her love of reading at Portland’s public library was recently recognized as one of four statewide winners of the annual Tristar Reads contest.
Held annually by Tennesseans for Student Success (TSS), the Tristar Reads contest encourages Tennessee children to read for at least 20 minutes a day during the summer break. K-12 students log their reading hours for the chance to earn $1,000 scholarships and other prizes.
“We’re encouraged by the enthusiasm that students showed for reading and the commitment they demonstrated during our contest this summer,” said Lana Skelo, TSS President and CEO, in a press statement. “Participants averaged nearly 600 additional minutes reading than last year. Each minute represents a student who’s doing their part to avoid the summer slide and enter the new school year with a stronger foundation for success.”…
