A man who assaulted two cyclists and then caused a SWAT standoff at his home in the Mentor Headlands has been sentenced to 24 years to 28 years in prison.
Lake County Common Pleas Court Judge Jeffrey W. Ruple imposed the sentence on Michael Leppelmeier for an incident that occurred on June 3.
Authorities said Leppelmeier struck a 72-year-old cyclist head-on near Headlands Beach State Park. He also assaulted a 68-year-old cyclist and threw that victim’s bicycle into a pond before fleeing to a Mentor home…
