Solon transforms corner of Aurora, Liberty roads with 1,100-tree Mini Forest

SOLON, Ohio — A small patch of land at Aurora and Liberty roads has been transformed with the planting of about 1,100 native trees and shrubs, kicking off a long-term effort to establish a new woodland in the heart of Solon.

The city’s new Mini Forest packs as many as 32 native species into roughly 333 square yards, where the plants are expected to grow together into a dense, layered forest that supports wildlife, manages stormwater and strengthens the local tree canopy.

The project is a partnership between the city and Rooted in Trees, a Northeast Ohio nonprofit focused on restoring and preserving the region’s tree canopy. Volunteers from Solon and organizations across Northeast Ohio helped complete the planting…
