Homemade bomb found near beach access in North Myrtle Beach, police say

People near a beach access Monday in North Myrtle Beach discovered what turned out to be a homemade bomb, police say.

North Myrtle Beach Police and the Horry County Bomb Squad were called to the 12th Avenue North beach access about 4:20 p.m. for a reported suspicious item. The item was determined to be an explosive device and was turned over to the bomb squad, according to a North Myrtle Beach Police Facebook post.
