MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners in Florida told FOX10 News the final hurdle in sinking the SS United States as an artificial reef is sign-off from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The federal delay is keeping the ship in Mobile for now, according to county officials.
County commissioners approved another $1.2 million for the project. Of that, $944,000 is set aside to keep the ship docked in Mobile if needed. The remaining funds restore financing for towing, deployment and regulatory costs…
