Nearly a year after Toledo police shot and killed a North Carolina man, the department still will not identify a sergeant believed to have been among the 10 officers who opened fire.
Zachary Orion Reed, 22, was fatally shot in October in a parking lot at 3100 Airport Hwy. after police said he drew a handgun on officers following about 30 minutes of negotiations outside a boarded-up retail building.
Chief Michael Troendle said officers at the scene fired a total of 59 shots. The department publicly identified all nine patrol officers as having fired at Reed, releasing their identification numbers, ages, ethnicities, genders, hire dates, units, and disciplinary histories.
