- RFK Jr. admits to eating a mouse ‘by mistake’ in shocking blog post chronicling his strange diet (irishstar.com)
A resurfaced 2001 blog post has brought renewed attention to Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s unconventional interactions with animals, including a startling admission that he once accidentally ate a mouse.
The post, originally published on Ecomall-a longstanding environmental and green shopping website-was authored by Kennedy himself. In it, he discusses his experiences with various types of meat in the context of sustainable eating.
Kennedy lists a wide array of creatures he has consumed: “I’ve eaten all kinds of insects and nematodes, caterpillars, snakes, frogs, alligators, terrapins, sea urchins, octopus, birds’ eggs, a mouse (by mistake), wild game including armadillo, wildebeest, warthog, coons and capybara, and some domestic animals including horse, dog and guinea pig,” he wrote. He also mentions a fondness for offal and roadkill, noting that his son, a vegetarian, finds it hard to eat with him.
Though the mouse-eating claim has not been independently verified and Kennedy has not publicly addressed the blog post, further scrutiny came from his cousin, Caroline Kennedy. In a letter opposing his nomination as health secretary, she described a disturbing childhood environment, alleging that Kennedy enjoyed blending baby chickens and mice to feed his pet hawks.
These stories form part of a broader pattern of unusual animal-related anecdotes associated with Kennedy. Other reports include an incident where he used a chainsaw to decapitate a dead whale stranded on a beach and transported it on the roof of his family minivan, as well as an episode in Central Park involving a dead bear cub. Kennedy admitted in 2024, while campaigning for president, that he picked up a roadkill bear cub after it was killed by a vehicle and staged the scene to look like a bicycle accident-a prank conceived by friends.
According to Kennedy’s account shared in a video conversation with actress Roseanne Barr, he was en route to a falconry outing when a woman driving ahead struck and killed the bear. He placed the carcass in his vehicle with plans to process it for meat but did not get around to it.
Later, needing to remove the bear from his car while in Manhattan, he and his friends, influenced by alcohol, devised the prank to disguise the situation amid heightened media coverage of bike accidents. Two dog walkers discovered the bear in Central Park, sparking a citywide mystery.
Authorities confirmed the bear had been hit by a vehicle, and no foul play was suspected.
Kennedy has denied some claims, such as reports he ate dog meat abroad, clarifying that it was goat meat instead.
These revelations add a complex and controversial layer to the public profile of the new health secretary, raising questions about his past behaviors and their impact on his current role.
