Fifty years after the release of “Rocky,” Sylvester Stallone, now 80, reflects on his journey from hardship to Hollywood icon and shares words of encouragement for those facing tough times.

Speaking with Fox News’ Bret Baier on “Special Report” about his new memoir, “The Steps,” Stallone offered advice for anyone feeling stuck or defeated.
“When you’re starting out, you have nothing to lose,” Stallone said. “Failure doesn’t mean you get a firing squad-it just means you tried.
The only thing you lose if you don’t try is your peace of mind. At least say, ‘I tried.’”
His personal motto? Simply, “I tried.”
Stallone recounted a pivotal moment from 1969, when a fortune teller predicted he’d find success by 1976-the very year “Rocky” hit theaters. He also credited his manager, Jane Oliver, as the woman who helped bring him into the spotlight.
Early in his career, Stallone briefly used the name Mike but soon reverted to his real name, believing it was more unique and memorable. He recalled feeling on the edge of obscurity before “Rocky” changed everything.
The actor revealed he began learning about filmmaking by working as an usher in a movie theater, watching multiple screenings a night and absorbing audience reactions-an experience he found more instructive than college.
One memorable behind-the-scenes story from “Rocky” involved the iconic “go the distance” speech. Producers initially wanted to cut the scene, but Stallone insisted it stay, recognizing it as the heart of the movie’s message. Given one chance to film it, he rallied the crew to be at their best, knowing how crucial the moment was.
When Stallone won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay in 1977, he admitted he was stunned, almost unable to believe it was happening. He dedicated the award to all those who, like Rocky Balboa, face struggles but keep pushing forward.
