Grand Rapids community honors Mario David Coronado Juárez amid calls for action against ICE

On Sunday, Sept. 20, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was involved in the death of another civilian, and this time, the tragedy occurred closer to home.

According to a press release from Grand Rapids Police, around 7 a.m. on that Sunday, ICE attempted to stop Guatemalan native Mario David Coronado Juárez, 36, who was living in Grand Rapids and working as a drywaller. Coronado Juárez reportedly fled from the scene, leading to a fatal accident when his car crashed into a tree near southbound Century Avenue and McKendrick Street.

At approximately 7:10 a.m., GRPD and GRFD responded to the car crash, which turned into a fire. Coronado Juárez was confirmed as the only occupant in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene…
