Kenowa Hills board upholds athletic director’s firing

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Kenowa Hills Public Schools Board of Education has officially fired the district’s athletic director.

The motion to uphold the termination of Ross Willick passed 6-1 at a special meeting Tuesday.

The vote came after presentations from both sides, with the district laying out the reasons for the firing and Willick presenting his side of things. After a short deliberation period, a motion was made to support the recommendation that Willick should be terminated. Trustee Don Munn attempted to abstain from the vote, but was instructed he could not. As a result, he voted no.

The board in August called for Willick’s termination following an investigation into alleged Title IX violations stemming from what Superintendent Cherie Horner called an “extensive” investigation into a first-hour strength class that was all male and all but one football player.
