Conway woman accused of stealing from, unlawfully obtaining power of attorney over vulnerable adult

CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) — A Conway woman has been arrested after allegedly stealing more than $17,000 from a vulnerable adult, according to police records obtained by News13.

Sarah Smalls, 58, has been charged with exploitation of a vulnerable adult, breach of trust with fraudulent intent, and perjury. She was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Monday, where she remains as of about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday on a $45,000 bond.

In April 2024, after only knowing a man — considered a vulnerable adult — for a month, Smalls obtained a Quitclaim Deed with the man’s signature, defrauding him of his property valued at $275,000, according to an arrest warrant. Smalls allegedly had a family member sign as the notary public…
