East Austin taqueria closes Cesar Chavez location, reopens at new location in October

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Taped on the building where Taqueria Chalapa currently sits at is a for sale poster for tables and chairs as another east Austin restaurant closes its doors.

After 29 years serving the community, Taqueria Chalapa closed on Sept. 27 after its landlord declined to renew their lease, according to a Facebook post written by Mauricio Lopez, the restaurant’s owner.

Chalapa held a “last call” this past Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. Guests arrived at the restaurant to enjoy the cuisine…
