Between 2024 and 2025, San Antonio saw a wave of Sonic Drive-In closures, with at least half a dozen locations closing across the city. More recently, another Sonic outpost followed suit by permanently shutting down its slush machines.
On September 18, a Facebook user shared that the Sonic Drive-In at 4318 Vance Jackson Road would close within a couple of days. The post caught MySA’s attention this week, so we visited the location to confirm it was no longer in service. Upon arrival, it was clear that Sonic had vacated the building, as all signs of the business appeared to have been removed.
Windows and doors to the shuttered restaurant were boarded up, and all of the covered drive-in parking spaces were stripped of ordering menus and other Sonic insignia. A tall sign visible from the neighboring highway has also been taken down. In addition to a “for lease” sign out front, another sign hung outside the closed business, directing customers to the nearest Sonic location still in operation.
“Sorry, this location has closed. Thanks for being our guests. Please visit us at our nearby Sonic: 2209 NW Military Hwy, Castle Hills, TX 78213,” the sign said…
