Former ESPN analyst Jason Whitlock has called for the WNBA to suspend A’ja Wilson following an altercation with a fan during Tuesday’s game between Wilson’s Las Vegas Aces and the Indiana Fever. The incident unfolded after Wilson was fouled by Sophie Cunningham and then confronted a spectator, sparking controversy and heated debate.
During the contest, tension was high as the Fever, led by Caitlin Clark, held the lead. After the foul, Wilson appeared visibly frustrated and approached a fan whom she accused of stepping toward her and escalating the situation.
The fan was initially escorted from the arena but was later allowed back to their seat. Several spectators behind the basket were vocal, contributing to the charged atmosphere.
On Amazon Prime’s broadcast, former WNBA star Candace Parker defended Wilson’s response, emphasizing the challenges players face with fan interactions. Parker, who was part of the commentary team, was also visibly engaged during the game, even receiving a celebratory gesture from Clark after a three-pointer.
In the aftermath, Whitlock took to Twitter to express his disapproval, not only of Wilson’s conduct but also criticizing Parker and the broadcast team. He wrote, “A’ja Wilson made a complete fool of herself tonight.

Just embarrassing.” Whitlock further added, “That Amazon broadcast crew needs to apologize, too.
Candace Parker and the other two clowns acting like fans can’t heckle players. Just embarrassing.”
Video footage later confirmed that the fan remained seated and did not advance toward Wilson as she had claimed. Wilson defended her actions by stating that she felt threatened by the fan’s behavior, describing it as unacceptable for anyone to step toward and point at her during the game.
The incident has sparked conversations about player conduct, fan behavior, and the responsibilities of broadcasters in moderating these moments during live sports events. The WNBA has yet to announce any disciplinary measures regarding Wilson’s actions.
