Greenville and Spartanburg Tracts Nominated for New Opportunity Zones

Six census tracts in Greenville County and six in Spartanburg County have been nominated for South Carolina’s next round of Opportunity Zones. The state submitted its recommendations to the U.S. Department of the Treasury, which must review the nominations before the new zones take effect January 1, 2027.

Gov. Henry McMaster submitted South Carolina’s nominations September 23 and announced the submission September 24. The recommendations followed a statewide effort led by the South Carolina Department of Commerce, with input from local governments, economic development organizations, community leaders and the public.

Greenville County’s nominated tracts are 45045000900, 45045002505, 45045003401, 45045003602, 45045003906 and 45045004400. The state’s nomination document classifies all six as non-rural, identifying the county’s proposed areas by their census tract numbers…
