Man dead after alleged car break-in outside Portage home

PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — A man suspected of breaking into cars outside a Portage home is dead after a confrontation with a homeowner early Wednesday morning, police say.

Officers were called to the home on Cedarcrest Avenue near Briarhill Drive just after 3 a.m. for reports of an assault in progress. When crews arrived, they found a man dead from at least one knife wound, the Portage Department of Public Safety told News 8 at the scene.

“The homeowner stated that he was alerted to a subject breaking into his car in the driveway of his residence. He came down to confront the subject, a struggle ensued at which point a subject produced a knife, the struggle continued, and the subject was then stabbed with a knife.
