Data: RI osprey population sees 38% drop in breeding success

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — There’s been a drastic decline in nesting success for ospreys during this year’s breeding season, according to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island.

The Audubon warned Tuesday that its Osprey Monitoring Program has documented a significant drop in fledged young among the state’s monitored nests.

Specifically, Audubon Director of Bird Conservation Sarah Deckel said only 38% of the 339 monitored nests have successfully fledged young this breeding season. There are more than 360 nests monitored by approximately 150 volunteers across the state…
