Mission Beach prepares for incoming super El Niño

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — With the forecast of a ‘super’ El Niño not backing down, residents and businesses along the boardwalk in Mission Beach are not taking any chances.

At a popular surf shop called Hamel’s, an old, battered wall that faces the ocean is coming down, and a brand new wall to protect the place from flooding is going up.

“So right now we basically ripped out all the columns that used to be in front. We’re going to completely redo the siding on this one, making sure that it’s all redone and nothing is rotted,” said the store’s manager Adam Wilkinson. “It’s also been recommended that we should probably put up a sea wall as well.”…
