LUBBOCK, Texas — Donnie Ford Jr. accepted a plea deal on Wednesday and was sentenced to 20 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, with 723 days of jail credit, following the tragic overdose of a woman who consumed fentanyl that he sold to her in September 2024.
Ford was previously charged with murder, but that charge was dismissed. He was reindicted for the manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance, specifically fentanyl, which caused death or serious bodily injury. This is the first time this statute has been used in Lubbock County and has only been used nine other times in Texas as of writing.
The victim’s mother provided a statement, saying, “I believe that the drugs provided to my daughter played a role in her death, and I have to live with the knowledge that someone made the decision to provide those drugs to her.”…
