Veterans depart St. Louis on honor flight to Washington, D.C.

ST. LOUIS – The 116th Greater St. Louis Honor Flight is headed to Washington, D.C., on Wednesday as dozens of veterans will be honored for their service in the nation’s capital.

The veterans will spend the day visiting various memorials, including the World War II Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. They’ll also watch the Changing of the Guard at Arlington National Cemetery.

The flight departed from St. Louis Lambert International Airport on Wednesday morning carrying 64 veterans, including 60 who served in Vietnam and four who served in the Korean War. Many of the veterans are decorated. Nine were awarded Bronze Stars for valor, five received Purple Hearts and one veteran received the Silver Star.
